We had our last week of everyday tours this week, and a great week it was! We saw killer whales on all 8 tours, and had some lovely humpback whale encounters as well.
This week we had visits from T063 and T065, T049A, T060, T035, T036, T036A, and T137 families of killer whales.
This week was highlighted by our encounter on Sunday morning when we caught up with a massive “T-party” in the Strait of Georgia. In total there were 23 orcas all together! It was a massive gathering of the T035, T036, T036A, T137 families, and joined by T063, T065, and T065A5. For those that don’t know, T063 is the very famous “Chainsaw”, a massive bull killer whale who’s fin has a couple of big chunks out of it. Unfortunately we found this group of whales somewhat late in our tour and so we didn’t have quite as much time to hang out with them as I would have preferred, but that’s okay. We still had time to watch and enjoy very social behavior. There were whales everywhere, with lots of splashing, tail slapping, upside down whales, and spyhopping.
We also had some wonderful humpback whale encounters. We were able to make it out to Race Rocks on a couple of different tours, where there has been lots feeding humpback whales over the last couple of weeks. It is so cool to see these big groupings of humpbacks enjoying the buffet of herring that the Salish Sea provides this time of year!
Starting this week we will be down to just Friday-Sunday tours for the last few weeks of our season. Don’t miss out on your chance for a wonderful fall whale watching adventure!
