We had a wonderful week, sighting killer whales on all 6 of our tours, and also some sightings of humpback whales and a gray whale. Pacific white sided dolphins also made a rare appearance in the Salish Sea which was exciting to see!
We had visits from the T073A, T123, T124A, and T137 families of killer whales this week! The T137’s were the family of the week, as we encountered them on 4 of our 6 tours! Once they show up, this family of orcas is generally known to stick around for at least a few days, and this week was no exception. It was awesome to spend time with them.
One of my favorite encounters with them from the week was on Saturday afternoons tour when we met up with them in Holmes Harbor, near the south end of Whidbey Island. T137A and T137D, “Jack” and “Wright” were traveling together when all of the sudden Wright came flying out of the water clearly indicating she had found something to hunt. Jack immediately joined in the hunt, and it wasn’t long before we quickly recognized they were chasing a Harbor Porpoise. It didn’t take long for the two of them to finish the hunt and have their dinner. It was a very intense 15 minutes! (graphic images of hunt below)
Lots of sunshine in the forecast for this weekend, we hope to see you for a one of a kind adventure soon!
