Another week with amazing orca whale sightings. We saw them on all 11 tours again this week, at this point I have almost come to expect that! Perhaps the best part of the week though was the amazing weather we had. The waters were calm and we got a lot of sunshine too.
This week we had visits from the T060, T049A, T018, T099, T046, T124D, T036, and T137 families of killer whales.
On Wednesday afternoons tour, we met up with the T049 families of killer whales, just to the northwest of Henry Island, on the north side of the San Juans. Immediately upon arriving, we could see this family was enjoying some playtime, with lots of splashing and commotion in the water. We watched as there was lots of “snuggling”, rolling around, some spyhops, and even a couple breaches. The 49A’s have been such a wonderful family of whales to watch this year, they always seem to be putting on a show of some sort!
We have seen a lot of signs from wildlife that fall is here/coming! Steller sea lions have returned to their fall haul-out sites, common murres are coming in by the thousands, bald eagles have begun to make their way up into the foothills chasing salmon runs. In my opinion there is no better time than fall to be on the water. We hope to see you soon for an adventure!
