Spring is always such a wonderful time to be on the water in the Salish Sea! We’ve had some great tours the last couple of weeks.
We have seen killer whales on ALL of our tours so far this year! This past weekend we had encounters with the T036A and T049A families of killer whales, who were accompanied by T099B.
On Saturday’s tour we caught up with the T036A family of Bigg’s killer whales who were traveling with T099B “Holly.” It was interesting to see Holly traveling with another family other than her own, her reasons for doing so will only ever be known to her! The T036A family is one of my favorites to encounter. They always seem to have so much energy and Saturday was no different. Immediately upon catching up with them we could see they were traveling, but doing a lot of playing along the way. There was lots of rolling, and high speed porpoising, and even a spyhop. We spent awhile taking it all in before waving goodbye to the whales for the day.
On Sunday’s tour we caught up with the T036A and T099B group of whales again, but this time they found more friends! They were traveling with the T049A family, including T049A1 “Noah” who has generally not travelled with his family the last couple of years. It was fun to see him hanging out with his brother T049A3 “Nat” who’s fin is getting SO big!
If you are thinking about hopping on a tour and shaking off the winter cobwebs, now is a great time! Make the short drive up from Seattle to do some whale watching!
