Our 2025 whale watching season is underway and off to a great start! We have seen killer whales on all 3 tours so far and had a bonus gray whale encounter on one of them as well. On our 3 tours so far we’ve had encounters with the T019, T046, T49A, T124A families of killer whales.
On Saturday’s trip, just a few minutes into our tour, we spotted spouts a few miles in front of us. This turned out to be a gray whale, CRC2362 “Thidwick”. We spent awhile with Thidwick getting some great views of his fluke. While we were on scene with Thidwick, we got a report of some killer whales down in Saratoga passage, making their way north, so off we went to find them! A short boat ride later, we caught up with who turned out to be the T046 family. It was a pretty cool experience to encounter them for the first time in our new boat “Wake” as we named the boat after the mother (T046) of this family of whales, who passed away a couple of years ago.
On Sunday’s tour, we caught up with the T019, T049A, and T124A families of killer whales who were all traveling together, for a total of 14 whales. It was awesome to spend time with this big group, who were quite social with each other. T019C “Spouter” and T049A3 “Nat” were definitely enjoying some “bro” time as they were split off from the rest of their families for quite some time.
We’re beyond excited to be back on the water and out enjoying the Salish Sea. Spring is an amazing time for whales and to get out there for an adventure. Don’t miss your chance for a whale watching adventure!
